Friday's Fancy

Daffodils are in full bloom...
These beautiful daffodils are filter all through the grounds of the office building where I work. A true sign that spring is here, tho, we will be 10 degrees below normal for the next couple of days. We are hoping to make a trip to the Elephant's Trunk Flea Market on Sunday, I can't wait. I hope there will be lots of goodies.

On another note, I have not had much time to devote to my blog, as I am in training for my new job. I am absolutely having a fantastic time. I still love blogging and will continue to do so, I just might post fewer times a week until I have settle into my new job and schedule. Thanks for your patience during my transition.

Have a gorgeous weekend!

Our Neck of the Woods

Hello! I hope you enjoyed your weekend. Our weather was simply gorgeous, upper 50s and sunny! We could not order more perfect weather.

As some of you may know I started a new job on Wednesday. It has been exciting. I have been going through some training and my colleagues have really welcomed me into the fold. I have taken such a liking to them, they are so upbeat, supportive, and they care about one another. I know I will be happy here.

On another note we finally are seeing sign of spring. My tulips are starting to make an appearance and the crocuses are finally here. You know I honestly had my doubts that the signs of spring may never come.

Whew! I do believe that winter is finally over.... good riddance!

On Thursday, the Hubby, Otis, and I we able to enjoy a wonderful evening walk. It's a special time of day, after dinner when the day is winding down, when all we heard was the sound of the birds chirping. Otis had a great time sniffing around and the Hubby and I got to talk about our day. (Well I did most of the talking... telling him all about my new job)

We even caught an amazing sunset.
How lucky can one person be?

To finish out the weekend I got some snuggling in on the couch with this little fellow...

After some good amount of snuggling (him completely passed out on my lap), I had to get up to start dinner (side note: we had fried dough, oh my, it was so yummy). By me having to move, I woke him up from his Sunday nap. Look at that puss, it has annoyance written all over it.

But he changed his tune once he realized Mommy was cooking dinner, happy dance!

So that is what has been happening in our neck of the woods.

              See you soon!

Goodwill Transformation

Happy Wednesday! If you have visited in the past you might know that today is my first day at my new job. The start of a new career. I am excited and looking forward to the possibilities.

As I mentioned earlier I found a few goodies at Goodwill and did not know what my plan was for them. I decided to start with the wood cutting board, using DecoArt Americana Decor Chalky Finish,  Crème Wax, and a stencil I transformed the tired looking cutting board to a cutie little sign.

Here is what I did.

I first gathered up my supplies:
  • DecoArt Americana Decor Chalky Finish in Everlasting and Carbon
  • DecoArt Americana Decor Crème Wax in Deep Brown
  • Americana Gloss Enamels Stick-On Stencils in Country

I gave the cutting board a very good washing and let dry. I then give the front a light sanding as there you cut marks that were visible. Then I painted it with 2 coats of the Everlasting.

Once dried I distressed some of the edges to give it a worn look.

I then choose the stencil I wanted to use and placed it on the board. I applied the Carbon color with a sponge dauber.

For the finishing touch I then covered the entire board with the Crème Wax, wiping it off more in some place than others.

Here is the finished piece. I love how the dark wax makes the carved flower and boarder more pronounced.

Quite a transformation!

This was such a quick and easy project which gives a new fresh look to a tired old piece.

Have you transformed a Goodwill find lately? If so I would love to hear about it.

               Happy Crafting!

A little bit of this...

Hi Friends! I hope you had a glorious weekend. The weather here in CT was gorgeous, it is finally feeling like spring around here.

In preparation of me starting my new job this week, I have been doing a bit of odds and ends. Last week as I was running errands I stopped into a Goodwill Store and bought these little goodies.
I have not decided how I will transform these but I will keep you posted.

Well flea market season is just about here. They had to cancel the opening for this past weekend since the fields were not quite ready. So we are hoping this Sunday is the day. We got a new toy delivered last week in anticipation of all the goodies we will find and to help the Hubby arms from toting them all for me.
It is the Creative Outdoor All-Terrain Folding Wagon. Isn't she a beauty. I am an avid QVC shopper and this guy was the Today's Special Value. I tried to resist, but in the end I couldn't. It folds to store, has huge wheel to tackle any terrian, an extra long handle so the wagon does not hit your wheels, and pockets to hold drinks. Boy do I love it. I can not wait to put this to good use!

On Saturday the Hubby and I went to Home Depot and bought ourselves a power washer.

Even though we live in a condo our front porch deck really needed some cleaning up. So on Sunday we got to work. This is what the deck looked like before.
A real mess... right?

And here is what it looked like after all the water dried.
Oh baby isn't she gorgeous? Can I tell you the satisfaction you get when you see all the dirt being removed. The Hubby and I were just giddy. We finished our front porch, in less than an hour, and now it is ready for our rocking chairs and decorative touches. I will make sure to take pictures and show you how it turned out.

Well that is what has been going on here. What have you been doing to get ready for spring?

         Have a blessed day!

Friday's Fancy

Today I wanted to celebrate and thank my angels on earth.

My Hubby, who knows how to make me laugh when I feel like crying. He encourages, supports and loves me unconditionally. Truly the love of my life.

My Parents, through thick and thin they have always supported and loved me beyond measure. They have been, all my life, the wind beneath my wings.

I love you!

Great News!

Hi All! Hope your week is moving along nicely!

Some of you who have visited before might be aware that during Christmas I was laid off from my job of 14 years. This was a shock and a blessing as I was not happy there any longer. Even though it seemed like the rug was pulled out from under me, I knew this was going to be the start of something new for me, I just didn't know what. My gut also told me that somehow things would work out and it would be better than before.

Guess what......

This week I got word that I was selected for a position in a company I was really hoping to get in.

Yippee!!!! (insert Jumping for joy!)

A good friend of mine currently works at this company and she gave me the lead. Come to find out the company consists of people that I worked with in the past (before I started in the graphics field) so we are talking over 15 years ago. After college I started in the pharmaceutical arena working for Bayer in clinical research. During my time at Bayer I was trained as a graphic designer. I spent 9 years there and left to work for the graphics company I was laid off from.

It is so funny how life comes full circle. I am blessed that this opportunity came along. The founder of the company was my mentor when I was a Bayer (small world, huh?). This has turned out to be my blessing in disguise. The vibe I received when I went to interview and meet everyone at this company was amazing. Everyone loves working there, they are family oriented and truly believe in work/life balance. They also invest in their employees and will develop and promote you to your full potential. I feel like I struck gold.

I know this is the path I have been praying for that will get me and the Hubby to where we eventually want to lay down roots. Sometimes it is hard to keep the faith, to keep your head up when you feel beaten down. I am so blessed to have a Hubby and Parents who are there for me, to pick me up, to encourage and push me to my full potential. I could not have done this without them.

I know I had a plethora of prayers being sent my way for a new and better opportunity to come my way. I thank each and everyone of you, as I am truly on to bigger and better things.

       Have a blessed day!

Evening Walk

Hello Friends! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and Holiday.

We spent Easter with my Hubby's Mom and Sister. It was a pleasant afternoon. We got to visit, have a delicious dinner, and Otis and his cousin Scout got to play a little.

This weekend I took this random picture of Otis. It is of him and his favorite toys.
The toy between his paws is a bag that has a motion sensor ball in it, so when he moves it, it starts bouncing and barking. He just loves it, he continually carries it around, up and down the stairs. Sometime he leaves it right where you need to walk and if you are not careful you end up kicking it and setting if off, scaring the dickens out of you.

Saturday was such a beautiful day here, tho a little windy during the day. We took advantage and went for an evening stroll as the sun was setting. We had a great time the 3 of us, Otis could not get in enough sniffing. The Hubby and I searched for signs of spring. We saw a few of our neighbors have crocus and daffodils popping up. I am sure mine will start to appear soon.

As we were walking I as able to capture a couple of pictures of the sunset through the reeds.

In this one, on the left, you can just about see the lighthouse.

And I got this one just before the sun went over the horizon.
It is such a great time of day, so peaceful, our favorite time to go for a stroll.

Enjoy your Monday!
