A Treasured Holiday Decoration

Hi, thanks for stopping by today. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving and you didn't consume too much turkey. We had a nice quiet Thanksgiving and we did some visiting with relatives on Friday... no Black Friday shopping for us!

The Hubby and I started our Christmas decorating around the house. Amongst all the decorations you acquire, there are always some that hold a special meaning to you. It could be something that has been handed down through the generations or it may have been handcrafted by a loved one.

I have one such item that I treasure dearly. It is the nativity scene handcrafted by my Mom. (Hi Mom!)

When my mom was first married she attended a ceramics classes, where she worked tirelessly for months on each piece. Taking great care in selecting the paint colors for each piece.

I remember, as a little girl, setting up the nativity with my mom. Unwrapping each piece from its foam covering, it was like discovering it again for the first time. Together we would decide on how each piece was so be displayed.

Mom always let me place the blanket over the baby Jesus, covering him until Christmas morning. It is one of many fond memories of me and my Mom that I hold closed to my heart.

At the start of the Christmas season, after I purchased my first home, Mom handed down the nativity scene to me. I was honored and so excited, I could not wait to set it up.

It holds a prominent spot on my buffet table every year.

As I set up the nativity scene each year, it takes me back to those days when I was a little girl spending time with my Mom and dreaming about one day being just like her.

What decoration do you hold dear and what is its meaning to you?

Happy Decorating!
